The official journey is over — but we’re still moving, still documenting, still listening as we bring the ship back home. The crew has changed: Gigi and Stephan have left; Markus and Christine remain on board, heading upstream with a changing cast of artist-friends. The logbook continues.
Today was another quiet day. We only covered a few kilometers on the river before deciding to stop early in a wide side arm to enjoy some swimming and kayaking. The forecast hinted at a possible change in the weather, so we thought it best to soak up the sun while we could.
Once again, our anchoring spot was perfect. With easy access to the shore, we even braved a two-hour walk in the heat just to get some ice cream.
For about an hour and a half, we kept talking about wild boars – their tracks were everywhere – until we finally looked it up and realized they must have been deer.
Since we’ve changed our anchoring method and now often have shore access in the middle of nowhere, we’ve come to love spotting and interpreting animal tracks. For the next journey, we’ll definitely need a good field guide – one for the birds of the Danube Delta, and another for animal tracks and the wildlife along the river.
