Day 42, Tutrakan, BGR – Ruse, BGR

logbook 25 07 03

The official journey is over — but we’re still moving, still documenting, still listening as we bring the ship back home. The crew has changed: Gigi and Stephan have left; Markus and Christine remain on board, heading upstream with a changing cast of artist-friends. The logbook continues.

Today we’re welcoming two artist friends on board: Sun and Ursula Lücke. Every new person changes the onboard dynamics completely, so we’re curious and excited about this shift—especially because it also means sharing the journey and our experiences in new ways.

The Danube is exceptionally calm today, like a mirror. We’re gliding past endless sandbanks and a mosaic of large and small islands, all of them tempting us to stop and go for a swim.

But there’s no time for a dip today—we need to cover over 60 km. In general, we’re finding it challenging to keep up with our daily navigation targets. Sixty kilometers a day is quite ambitious, especially now that we’re going upstream. When we were going downstream, we managed an average of 80 km per day. We might need to rethink our pace at some point—but for now, we keep moving and enjoy what the river gives us.
