Today we leave the main Danube channel, navigating into the Bala and Borcea branches – side arms of the Danube. Along the shores, herds of cows, sheep, and goats rest, watched over by shepherds and their dogs. Scattered fishing camps line the banks, quiet and beautiful to look at.
We spot pelicans and storks and keep hoping for a glimpse of flamingos, though none appear. Otherwise, not much happens – and perhaps that’s the point.
The day unfolds between quiet work and long, contemplative gazes across the water. Time stretches.
