Day 9, Budapest, HU – Fajsz, HU

logbook 25 05 31

Yesterday’s layover is still resonating with us. The conversation with Ákos gave us insights into the cultural climate in Hungary—and it also made us reflect on what that means for Austria. Ákos spoke of frogs that don’t realize they’re being boiled… a sharp image that leaves a mark.

This morning, we departed from Budapest in what can only be described as a majestic exit. The city truly embraces the Danube. The Parliament, the historic bridges, the busy river promenade—it all felt like a cinematic farewell.

The river soon returned to its calm, steady flow. Today we covered a long stretch (145 km) on the river. The route was calm and restorative, both in terms of navigation and scenery. A peaceful glide through the Hungarian landscape, with space to breathe and reflect.
