MaTjoPo, named after the Chinese goddess and patron saint of seafaring, has a rich history. Originally used as a harbor tug and supply boat for transporting food and other goods, it was later converted into a passenger vessel and eventually repurposed as a houseboat. In its earlier days in the Netherlands, MaTjoPo also served as a gathering place for artists.
In 2018, MaTjoPo was relocated to the Danube in Austria. Since 2024/25, it has been run by a small collective – including Christine Pavlic who is part of the In Flux | Im Fluss crew – seeking new harbors between the shores of reality and the horizons of utopia.
